Our people policy
Without doubt our people are our most valuable assets.
So, we go to great lengths to invest in them.
The health and well-being of our employees is important to us. We go to great lengths to ensure our people have the help they need to stay healthy and safe and are offered opportunities to develop their careers. We also ensure our people are rewarded for their contribution and have the opportunity to give us feedback about working for the Group.
During 2010 we ran a campaign over a period of six weeks to encourage our people to think and act healthily, focusing on diet and exercise.
Group Safety run training courses for managers to give them the information necessary to manage their people safely. Our approach to safety means we consistently record fewer reportable accidents than the national average for our industry sector.
Training helps our people develop their potential and meet their own ambitions and goals. In 2010, we ran 55 courses with a total attendance of 995 people. Every employee completed at least one of our e-learning courses. Our approach to training supports the growth of a group of strong, profitable businesses.
To demonstrate how much we value our people we’re keen to make sure our reward package is as extensive and varied as possible. We offer a competitive remuneration package and bonus scheme. Our benefits include holidays, pension schemes and private medical insurance. We also recognise the value of having some choice over benefits. Our voluntary benefits include dental and travel insurance and we have a range of family-friendly initiatives, including flexible working arrangements.
We talk to our people about the businesses in which they work and the wider Group. We ask for their views and ideas and update them regularly on our performance through various communication channels. Employee committees support this two-way communication. In our annual employee survey people can feed back their views about working for the Group. 86% of people responded to the survey in 2010.
At the end of December 2010, we had 2,830 people working for the Royal London Group. We are passionate about recruiting the right people to support our business. We look for the right attitude, not just the right skills. We also encourage diversity. We are committed to recruiting, developing, promoting and training employees on the basis of individual competencies and performance. This is irrespective of gender, marital status, creed, colour, race, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, age or disability.
