Scottish Life International Rally to Support Juvenile Diabetes Research

Friday, 19 September 2008

Employees of Island based Scottish Life International ("SLI") are standing in full support of their parent company, Royal London Group, in an attempt to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes research.  On Sunday 21st September five SLI employees will be taking part in the "Greater London 2008 Walk/Run to Cure Diabetes", which takes place in Greenwich Park and is sponsored by Royal London.

Founded in 1986, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation ("JDRF") is the only charitable organisation in the world whose main objective is to find the cure for type 1 diabetes. Raising money to drive world-class research to prevent, treat and cure type 1 diabetes and its serious complications, JDRF holds particular significance for Royal London's Chief Executive Mike Yardley, whose son is a sufferer of the condition.

SLI employees Cathy Dawson; Chris Howard; Rebecca McKendrey; James Smith and June Whiteman each aim to raise £250 in sponsorship from family and friends.

In an effort to raise a total contribution of £2,000, SLI staff have also planned a number of other fund raising initiatives.  These include dress down days at their own offices, and that of their sister company Scottish Provident International, and a Car Wash Service at the Grandstand on Saturday 4th October.

Mike Yardley, Chief Executive of Royal London commented,

"The Walk To Cure Diabetes is a brilliant day out for all the family and we hope to have over 1,000 people taking part this year. The smallest of contributions can make all the difference to diabetes research and this is just one of many challenge events people can join to raise funds for JDRF. Royal London would like to wish good luck to all those taking part."
